Jacqueline Fernandez grew up in Bahrain, Manama. She is Sri Lankan and comes from an ethnically diverse background. The father of Jacqueline, Elroy Fernandez is a an Sri Lankan. There are two brothers younger than her as well as an older sister. She was raised and born in Bahrain. Her parents moved there in the 1980s due to the civil war that occurred in Sri Lanka. Following her education in Bahrain, she was awarded the Scholarship to pursue a degree at Sydney's University of Sydney, where she pursued a master's degree in Media and Communications in Sydney, Australia. She was also a student at the Berlitz School of Foreign Languages, that helped her learn French, Arabic and Spanish. Miss Sri Lanka 2006 won Miss Universe 2006 competition in March 2006. She also competed as Miss Universe 2006 also. In the wake of being crowned Miss Sri Lanka in 2006, Padukone began working as a TV host. She hosted the show Lanka Business Report which focused on the business of Sri Lanka. Padukone is the daughter of badminton star Prakash Padukone, was born in Copenhagen and grew up in Bangalore. When she was a teen, Padukone was a participant in numerous championships for national badminton. She eventually gave up her passion for the game when she decided to be a professional fashion model. Padukone is a native of Mangalore, India. The language she speaks is Konkani is her mother tongue. Her ancestors come from the village Padukone within the Kundapura Taluk, in the Udupi district in Karnataka state in India. Prakash Padukone's father is an international badminton player who retired. The mother of the child is a traveling agent.
